Our novels are professionally bound and are available in both paperback, hardcover and ebook editions. For paperbacks and hardcovers we use a 'perfect binding' process, which means each book looks and feels just like a classic paperback or hardcover novel -- except infinitely better, because it's personalized!
The covers are printed in dazzling full-color, with several options available for customization. You can even upload a photo and have it appear on the back cover, along with personalized text previewing the book. (We use the names you provide to personalize the back cover text when the photo cover option is selected.) You can also upload a photo for your personalized ebook and it appears in the first few pages of your novel and looks terrific!
Our books are the same size as standard paperbacks and hardcovers: paperbacks are 4 1/4" x 7" (11cm x 18 cm) and hardcovers are 5 3/4" x 8 5/8" (14.5cm x 21.90cm). Ebooks are available in ePub and PDF formats and are immediately downloadable upon order.
With either version, you have the option to add a custom photo to the back cover!
We provide defaults for many of the selections in our books, but it is always better if you personalize as many of the characteristics as possible. If you are unsure about a characteristic, don't worry: remember, it's a fantasy, so you can put something outlandish or humorous! You can even use a celebrity or fictional person's name if you want. Have fun! If you can't remember or don't know a character's last name, leave it blank - a space or blank will not appear in the book. (However, for some novels, particularly our line of personalized classics, each character field is required.)
Characteristics such as 'Friend's Hair' and 'Eye Color' are not mentioned often in the book so don't worry if you can't remember all the characteristics!

Unfortunately, no. You may love, hug and cuddle your pet iguana, snake or pot bellied pig but we can't include them in the story. The personalized storyline was developed for a dog or cat.
In our romance novels the sexual tension and excitement build with each encounter between our heroine and hero. (Often with a practical joke or tidbit of humor to add to the mix!) Most of the love scenes are fun and romantic with lots of rolling around and heavy breathing.
The scenes in Hot Blooded, our same-sex novel for men, are the most erotic and contain graphic sex and language. Fifty Shades of You includes profanity and very descriptive sexual scenes. Z Love, Seduction Games, By Magic Bound, Fierce Moon and ER Fever are the next spiciest. The rest of our books have been carefully written to present passion and love without explicit language or actions. We have something for everyone! Wedding Favors has no sex scenes, just sweet kisses (both chocolate and the other kind!).
Love's Next Door is 150 pages, Medieval Passion 160 pages, Z Love, Dark Embrace, Wedding Favors, Tropical Treasure, Vampire Kisses, Pirates of Desire, Western Rendezvous and ER Fever are approximately 180 pages, Racing Hearts, Click for Love, Starstruck and Hot Blooded are 195 pages, Seduction Games is 200 pages, and Fierce Moon and By Magic Bound and Wedding Favors are 202 pages.
YES! Many of our readers have asked for same-sex novels, and we've started by adapting two of our most popular novels (with originals coming soon).
For guys, we have Hot Blooded, a darkly erotic take on a classic vampire romance, where a powerful immortal and a college professor are drawn to each other and give in to desire despite the terrifying risk of their own destruction. For women, Seduction Games whisks our heroines off to a tropical island... where they're contestants in a reality TV show filled with bedlam and backstabbing (and plenty of off-camera passion!). Can a heartbroken woman with strong ethics learn to trust her wily, fierce competitor?
If you're looking for something appropriate for anyone with no romance at all, try our personalized mystery novel, Golden Night, which offers both male and female personalized companions for our lead characters.
We only personalize classic novels that are available in the public domain. We choose our favorites from beloved authors -- especially books filled with adventure, thrills, romance, and excitement! Just like you, we grew up reading and loving these novels, and always dreamed of stepping inside the fictional worlds, joining famous characters like Long John Silver, the Mad Hatter, Mr. Darcy, and even Dracula. Now Classic Book By You can offer everyone the chance to Live the Fantasy®... just as we always wanted!
The process begins by selecting a novel and going through the text carefully to choose the customizable characters. We start with the protagonist--usually the 'hero' or 'heroine' of the tale--and then we find the companions among the cast of characters who can also be customized.
Our personalized editions adhere as closely as possible to the original tales, other than changing the personalized character names and adding some other customized features (such as describing the characters' eye and hair colors).
In a few cases we might need to do some other editing to suit the personalized genre. To learn about any notable changes to each book, view the "What do we personalize?" section on each book description page. (Currently, only Peter Pan, Robin Hood and Treasure Island have any significant changes.)
Such edits are very rare, however; we treasure these classic novels too much to harm them--we wouldn't dare rewrite Dickens, Twain, Austen or Shakespeare!
Nor do we update or modernize the stories. It's true that many of the novels were written centuries ago, and so certain character types or descriptions may seem old-fashioned and even downright odd to our modern sensibilities. But finding ourselves living in an unusual time period or setting is part of the charm.
No, the books' titles remain true to their original titles (e.g. Alice in Wonderland). However, we do personalized the side of the paperback cover with whichever name you choose to feature. For example, the side will read: "Starring: Angela Jones." View a large version of a paperback cover.
Prom and Prejudice has no romance or violence; the relationships among the four personalized characters are of friends. The hero and heroine do attend the prom together and the story can work either as friends or with the possibility of a boyfriend/girlfriend relationship.
First Bite, Night Wolf, Sea Spell and Black Lace are about the romantic relationship between the hero and heroine. There is some intimacy implied (mostly kissing) but not graphically depicted.
In First Bite, the hero is a vampire and there are non-graphic scenes of violence both in the present and in descriptions of the hero's past.
Night Wolf is a darker story where the hero is a werewolf, and the story focuses on the mystery surrounding a serial killer. There are some attacks and descriptions of violence, but nothing very explicit. If this were a movie, it would be rated PG-13.
Sea Spell is a fantasy adventure where our lead characters face danger and evil forces. There are some descriptions of violence, though not too graphic.
Black Lace is another dark paranormal tale where our hero is a Ward who leads the souls of the dead to their final rest, and our heroine is a succubus / vampire, destined to connect with her victims and eventually kill them. Some serious themes of love, loss and sacrifice are explored. Contains some non-graphic scenes of romance.
Most of our books contain plenty of adventure but no violence.
Song Quest does explore a few more serious themes, with some brief descriptions of peril for our personalized lead characters and a worrisome illness for their (fictional) families. Our lead characters must go into battle with some fearsome creatures, and one (non-personalized) character does die, not graphically. However, there is nothing in this book that wouldn't be found in Disney films such as The Lion King, Bambi or Tangled.
Themes such as the value of friendship, creativity, perseverance and the importance of following your dreams are explored and uniquely presented in a manner only possible through a full-length personalized story. The themes and values are presented subtly to enhance the story, and in no way detract from the storyline.
Yes! We have Teen Book By You®, a division specifically for teens and tweens. Most of the personalized characters are of high school age, and the themes are generally more mature and aimed at children and young adults ages 11 and up. Visit http://TeenBookByYou.com for more details and a listing of all our available books.
Golden Night has no romance; the relationships among the four personalized characters are of friends and colleagues.
Fierce Moon is a romantic suspense where the hero and heroine become personally involved during the investigation; there are some spicy scenes between the two. The plot interweaves both mystery and romance.
