What do we personalize in Treasure Island?
Jim - The boy at the center of the story, Jim is brave, loyal, and tries to do the right thing. His hunger for adventure leads him to the Hispaniola and the hunt for treasure, while his friendly nature puts him at risk for treachery by Long John Silver.
Dr David Livesay - A calm, composed, duty-bound man who decides to take Jim on the voyage. He is also a local magistrate and a close friend of the Hawkins family.
Jim's mother - A loving, hard-working woman who owns the family Inn. (This character is not named in the original.)
Captain Alexander Smollett - The brave captain of the Hispaniola. He is intelligent, tactful, and very strict when it comes to handling the ship and its crew.
Ben Gunn - The only human inhabitant of Treasure Island. He was marooned by his fellow pirates three years ago.
Captain Billy Bones - A tall, strong, drunken man with a dark past who comes to live at the Inn carrying an old sea-chest filled with mystery!
Note: In addition to the personalizations of the characters, some other edits have been made to the original text. The story is originally told by Jim himself; in our version, the story is told by a narrator (but still mostly through our young hero's eyes). In addition, the role of our hero's father has been omitted; in the original, he dies early in the tale. In other respects the novel is true to the original classic book.
